Founding of Sinn Féin
On November 28, 1905, Arthur Griffith founded Sinn Féin as a political party in Ireland. The party's initial aim was to establish a dual monarchy between Ireland and Great Britain, with Ireland having its own parliament and self-governance. Sinn Féin quickly became a central force in Irish nationalism, advocating for greater independence and eventually playing a crucial role in the events leading to the Irish War of Independence and the establishment of the Irish Free State.
