Birth of Roger Casement
Roger Casement, a prominent Irish nationalist, poet, and humanitarian, was born on September 1, 1864, in Sandycove, County Dublin. Casement gained international recognition for his reports on human rights abuses in the Congo Free State and the Amazon. Later, he became deeply involved in the Irish independence movement. During World War I, he sought German aid for an Irish rebellion, leading to his arrest, conviction for treason, and execution in 1916.
