Whiteboy Movement Intensifies
On October 23, 1771, the Whiteboy movement intensified its activities in Munster, Ireland. This agrarian secret society protested various grievances, primarily focusing on land issues such as enclosure of common lands, rising rents, and tithes paid to the Anglican Church. Their actions, often involving nocturnal raids and property damage, represented an early form of organized rural resistance against perceived injustices by landlords and the established church.
