Launch of the Belfast News Letter
On September 1, 1737, the Belfast News Letter was first published in Belfast, Ireland. This newspaper holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously published English-language daily newspaper in the world, and one of the oldest surviving newspapers in Ireland and Britain. Its establishment marked a significant development in Irish media and public discourse, providing a platform for news, advertisements, and opinions that reflected and influenced the social, political, and economic life of Ulster and beyond. It continues to be published today.
