On October 2, 1942, the HMS Curacoa, a Royal Navy light cruiser, was tragically rammed by the RMS Queen Mary approximately 40 miles north of Tory Island, off the coast of Ireland. The Curacoa was escorting the Queen Mary, which was transporting 10,000 American troops to Europe during World War II. The collision resulted in the devastating loss of 331 lives from the Curacoa's crew of 430, marking a significant maritime disaster during the war.
