On September 5, 1976, Betty Williams and Mairead Corrigan, founders of the Peace People movement, led their largest peace rally to date in Belfast. This demonstration drew thousands of women from both Catholic and Protestant communities, united in their call for an end to the sectarian violence in Northern Ireland. The rally was a powerful grassroots response to the ongoing Troubles, following a tragic incident where three children were killed by a Provisional IRA getaway car. The Peace People's efforts garnered international attention and earned Williams and Corrigan the Nobel Peace Prize in 1976.
