On February 5, 1867, the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB), also known as the Fenians, finalized plans for a nationwide uprising against British rule in Ireland. Secret meetings were held across the country to coordinate the rebellion. These extensive preparations were a precursor to the Fenian Rising, which ultimately took place in March 1867. Although the rising was unsuccessful, these organizational efforts demonstrated the Fenians' commitment to Irish independence and their capacity for large-scale mobilization.
