On May 12, 1916, James Connolly and Seán MacDiarmada, prominent leaders of the Easter Rising, were executed by firing squad at Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin. Connolly, severely wounded during the rebellion, was unable to stand and was reportedly tied to a chair for his execution. These were among the final executions of the Rising's leaders by the British authorities, following a series of court-martials. Their deaths, along with others, fueled public outrage and significantly contributed to the growing support for Irish independence. Both men played crucial roles in planning and leading the insurrection against British rule.
