Theobald Wolfe Tone, a pivotal figure in Irish revolutionary history, was born in Dublin on June 20, 1763. Educated at Trinity College, he became a key founder of the Society of United Irishmen in 1791, advocating for an independent Ireland. His political activism led to exile in the United States and later France, where he sought French military aid for Irish uprisings. Despite his efforts, French assistance in 1798 proved insufficient, leading to his capture. Facing execution as a traitor, Tone tragically took his own life in prison, cementing his legacy as a foundational figure of Irish republicanism.
