Henry Plumer McIlhenny, an American art collector and philanthropist with Irish roots, was born on October 7, 1910, in Philadelphia. He is notably remembered for his significant contribution to Irish heritage. McIlhenny later became the last private owner of the Glenveagh Estate in County Donegal, Ireland. In 1984, he generously donated the estate, including its castle and extensive gardens, to the Irish state. This act led to the establishment of Glenveagh National Park, preserving its natural beauty and historical significance for public enjoyment and conservation.
