On August 19, 1504, the Battle of Knockdoe took place in County Galway, Ireland. This significant conflict involved Gearóid Mór FitzGerald, the 8th Earl of Kildare and Lord Deputy of Ireland, against Ulick Fionn Burke, 6th Clanricarde, and their respective Irish allies. The battle stemmed from a dispute between Maelsechlainn mac Tadhg Ó Cellaigh and Clanricarde, with Kildare intervening due to Burke's aggressive expansion and occupation of Galway. The Lord Deputy's forces, though victorious, suffered heavy casualties in what is considered one of the bloodiest medieval battles in Irish history.
