The Battle of Foulksmills, also known as the Battle of Horetown, occurred on June 20, 1798, during the Irish Rebellion. Approximately 2,000 Crown troops, led by John Moore, engaged and defeated a force of 3,000 United Irishmen rebels in County Wexford. The rebels attempted to outflank Moore's forces but were ultimately pushed back. Both sides sustained significant casualties, with around 300 killed or wounded on each side. This British victory opened the road to Wexford, which was recaptured the following day, marking a crucial moment in the suppression of the rebellion.
