The first modern Tailteann Games were held in Dublin, Ireland, in August 1924, shortly after the Paris Summer Olympics. The event aimed to showcase the new Irish Free State's independence and cultural identity. Olympic stars were invited to compete, and events included athletics, aquatics, chess, golf, hurling, and motorcycling. The games opened with a choir singing the 'Tailteann ode' by Oliver St. John Gogarty.
